What Does That Mean: Equally Yoked

Clarifying some biblical terms and common church lingo.

EQUALLY YOKED

The term “equally yoked” (often used within the context of marriage) implies that there is compatibility, balance, and a common understanding between two parties. Years ago, oxen were paired by weight and height to accomplish a specific job. Poorly paired oxen would end up working against each other instead of as a team. In our Christian walk, it is important for us to share the beliefs of those with who we’re in close relationship with in order to grow, strengthen one another, and positively contribute to the work of the Lord.
